A woman’s attempt to gauge her date’s generosity took an unexpected turn when her plan went awry. In an odd move, she decided to bring 23 family members along on their blind date, hoping to see how willing her partner would be to share. However, she was not prepared for what came next.
The woman’s strategy, albeit bold, proved to be ill-considered. Mr. Lui, Miss Zhang’s date, had offered to take her and her family to one of his favorite restaurants in an effort to win her over. But what surprised him even more was finding her entire 23-person extended family present. Naturally, Mr. Lui objected to the idea of paying for such a big event, which created an awkward issue/
This unpleasant incident happened in a restaurant in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang, according to the local daily Taizhou Evening News. Despite her doubts, the woman wanted to see how willing Mr. Lui was to help and provide for her family. She did not, however, execute the plan perfectly—especially since it was a blind date.
It was evident during the meal that Mr. Lui was not in agreement with the woman’s level of giving. He went without saying goodbye, leaving the woman to handle the consequences on her own, instead of accepting the bill with grace. Her experiment had ended cruelly; she was now responsible for paying the substantial debt of 20,000 yuan ($3,100).
But Zhang did not stop there. The partner felt deceived by the way the blind date went, and went on to sue Mr. Liu. The court determined that Mr. Liu should only pay 1400 yuan of the total amount.
Looking back, the woman’s attempt to determine how generous her date was proved to be both expensive and fruitless. She had the best of intentions, but her method for assessing Mr. Lui’s character fell flat. This cautionary tale serves as a reminder that the most important things in any relationship are communication and honesty, not intricate character assessments.
