No one on Earth, young or old, could possibly not recall the well-known tale of romance between charmer Danny Zuko and the quiet Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson. Nearly 43 years after winning over millions of hearts and becoming the highest-grossing musical of its time, Grease remains a beloved classic.
Unbelievably, what Danny and Sandy shared was something that we all desired to have. Their influence on the young people of that era was so great that a lot of them imitated the movie’s dance routines. The prom, the car races, the mooning incident, and the singing and dancing in Grease were all a part of the time that shaped American society.
Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta became well-known celebrities who everyone spoke about thanks to this cultural phenomenon that persisted for years after its premiere. Newton-John’s hit song “Hopelessly Devoted to You” received an Oscar nomination for best original song.
But Grease wasn’t the only thing that made these two famous.
Most of you are familiar with actress Stockard Channing’s portrayal of the rebel Rizzo.
Channing was 34 when she was cast for the part; she is now 79 years old.
When she promoted her new West End show Apologia on Lorraine Kelly’s daytime chat program a while back, people were amazed at how much, despite her advanced age, she had changed.

Among the rest, Channing spoke about Grease and said that it is incredible how people are still obsessed with it after so many years.
“I don’t really want to believe it! I don’t want to think about that number! I am the world’s oldest living teenager! It is a little daunting, coming out of the theatre with people shoving photos in your face,” she said when asked about the musical’s popularity.
People couldn’t help but comment Channing’s looks. Many said that she had gone through a number of plastic surgery procedures.
Some of the comments were, “What the hell had Rizzo done to her face?!?! (sic).”
“Good grief, Stockard Channing looks unrecognisable on #Lorraine. Such a shame that people feel they can’t simply age gracefully.”
“Oh dear. Stockard Channing is looking a tad scary on @ITVLorraine.”
“What the heck has Stockard Channing done to her face? She can barely talk.”

More individuals jumped in to discuss Channing’s appearance on the talk program and plastic surgery in general after the Mirror published a piece about it.
It is really unfortunate that women, in particular, believe they must undergo numerous operations in order to maintain their youthful appearance. She is a beautiful woman, and I bet she would have aged well without all the fillers and pulling around.
“I see beautiful women in their seventies and eighties, and even with wrinkles and well-nourished skin. I don’t know why these celebrities care; they should just accept growing older.”
“Is it any wonder that people with more money than sense try to retain a look they had 40 years ago and fail. Leading to them actually looking rather frightening. There is no shame looking 73 and if more actors and actresses stood up to those that demand they don’t look their age then maybe things would change for the better.”
What do you think of Rizo nowadays?
