Just one day before she passed away, Shannen Doherty and her ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko finalized their divorce.
According to a number of media outlets, on July 12, they filed papers indicating that they chose a “default or uncontested dissolution” of their marriage, meaning that they reached a peaceful settlement out of court.
According to People, the paperwork said that “the parties have entered into a written agreement regarding their property and their marriage or domestic partnership rights, including support, the original of which is being or has been submitted to the court.”
Additionally, the former Charmed star signed papers renouncing her right to spousal support.
She said, “I knowingly give up forever any right to receive support from my spouse or parents.”
In April 2023, Doherty filed for divorce from Iswarienko following an 11-year marriage.
Leslie Sloane, Doherty’s representative, said that although she was reluctant, she felt obligated to move forward.
The actress’s plea for spousal assistance resulted in a difficult divorce.
Doherty charged Iswarienko in June 2024 of purposefully prolonging the legal process and “delaying settlement hoping” that she would die of cancer before the divorce was finalized.
She wrote in the court filing, “It is just not right that Kurt be allowed to drag out our divorce in the hopes that I pass away before he has to pay me while he lives his life and shirks his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years.”
Doherty’s claim was refuted by Iswarienko’s attorney, who said that Doherty had turned down a settlement offer that had been made in October 2023.
“Kurt isn’t just waiting for Shannen to pass away,” his attorney Katherine Heersema confirmed. “He wants Shannen to have the best possible outcome and for them both to be able to move on from this case.”
