Paul Harvey, a radio pundit, warned Americans in 1965 with a broadcast prophecy. Beginning in the 1950s, his programs were seen by about 24 million viewers each week for forty years. He was correct in what he claimed, but no one could have imagined that his prophecies would come to pass 53 years later.
Paul says, “If I were the Devil,” to start his “prophecy.” He goes on to talk about a few contemporary topics. This is something that everyone ought to hear. Sadly, but fifty-four years ago, Paul Harvey was right on.
“If I Were Satan” I would wish to cover the entire planet in darkness if I were the Prince of Darkness.Even though I would have one-third of its area and four out of every five of its residents under my authority, I would not stop until I had plucked the ripest apple off the tree.
Thus, I should go ahead and take leadership of the United States, if needed.I would launch a whisper campaign first.Just as I said to Eve, “Do as you please,” I would use the serpent’s knowledge when I spoke to you.
I used to say in a whisper to the younger generation, “The Bible is a myth.” I would persuade them that “man created God,” not the other way around. I’ll agree that “what is good is square and what is bad is good.”
I would gently encourage young married people that attending cocktail parties is a good idea and that working makes them less human. I would advise them against forming “radical” moral, religious, or nationalistic convictions.
Additionally, I would have the elderly repeat after me, “Our father which are in Washington,” as I taught them how to pray.
I would then arrange things. In order to make everything else appear boring and uninteresting, I would teach writers how to make horrific literature appealing.Dirtier movies would be my danger to TV, and vice versa.
I would get into labor unions and push for less work and more idle time. I often find that idle hands are productive.I would sell drinks to wealthy women and gentlemen, smuggle drugs into whomever I could, and use pills to put the others to sleep.
If I were the Devil, I would support educational institutions that promote students’ intellectual development while downplaying the significance of emotional control.I would designate an atheist to represent me before the highest courts, and pastors would concur.
With flattery and promises of power, I would get the courts to rule against God and in favor of pornography. Thus, I would expel God from the Congress Houses, the Courtroom, and the Schoolhouse.
Then I would deify science and replace religion with psychology in his own churches. If I were Satan, I would manufacture an egg for Easter and a bottle for Christmas.
If I were Satan, I would steal from the wealthy and give to the underprivileged until I eliminated the desire for ambition in all people. Then everyone would have to report back to work in my police state.
After that, I would split up families, sending women to work in coal mines, children to wear uniforms, and people who objected to being sent to camps that used slave labor.
The world will end just as surely as the Devil does, therefore if I were Satan, I would simply keep doing what I am doing.
My mother and I used to listen to Paul Harvey recordings back in the 1970s. He covers every topic quite accurately. Exactly what he said fifty-four years ago is happening again now!
