After years of quietly battling multiple sclerosis, the former Married… With Children star has stepped back into the spotlight looking dramatically different. Fans who had grown used to seeing her with a cane and speaking openly about her pain were shocked by her vibrant, glowing appearance in new promo portraits for her memoir You With the Sad Eyes.

Behind the images, however, is a far heavier story. Diagnosed with MS in 2021, Applegate has admitted that many days she can barely move, calling her bedroom a “sanctuary” because the pain can be overwhelming. She pushes herself to get up mainly for her 15-year-old daughter, Sadie — even when walking down the hallway feels impossible.

In raw podcast episodes, she’s broken down over how the illness has affected her child, saying it’s been like Sadie “lost the mom she had.” The once high-energy actress — a runner and dancer — now faces daily physical limits, anxiety about leaving home, and moments of screaming pain.

She’s also endured serious health scares, including a kidney infection that landed her in the hospital after excruciating abdominal pain triggered an emergency CT scan.

Despite everything, Applegate insists she’s stronger now — even if she still carries those “sad eyes” from childhood. And while she admits she doesn’t know what her future in acting looks like, one thing is clear: she’s no longer hiding the reality of her fight.
