Following her impassioned rendition of “Don’t Lie to Me” aimed at former President Trump, Barbra Streisand has once again criticized the “tyrant,” this time threatening to depart the country if the Republican front-runner for 2024 secures re-election. “I can’t live in this country if he becomes president,” the singer and actor recently declared to Stephen Colbert, describing the four-times-indicted Trump as “so stupid” and “ill-informed.”
There have been other celebrities who have reneged on their promises to relocate to Canada, Europe, or even Jupiter following Trump’s 2016 victory, so this isn’t the first time Streisand has made such a threat. When the 81-year-old legendary singer declared, “Yes, Mr. Trump, let’s make America great again,” she wasn’t aiming for a role in a comedy. But let’s be clear: America was already great before your election.
An outspoken critic of the former president, Streisand, a Democratic fundraiser and supporter, has referred to him as “the Liar in Chief, the Groper in Chief.” Her 36th album, “Walls,” released in 2018, was inspired by the reality show star turned US president.
Streisand, a Grammy-nominated artist, has expressed her heartbreak and disbelief at Trump’s assault on democracy and institutions. She penned the song “Don’t Lie to Me,” inspired by the news and the turmoil caused by Trump’s falsehoods. In her memoir, “My Name is Barbra,” she delves into the tension between politicians and artists, highlighting her own political activism.
