Have you ever noticed how life can get so hectic that you sometimes overlook what’s happening right in front of you?
Don’t worry if that happens to you; you’re definitely not alone. I’m the kind of person who can spend five minutes searching for my cellphone while I’m actually holding it!
That said, I think most of us would agree that in today’s fast-paced world, staying fully present in the moment can be a challenge, as can processing things that seem to have appeared out of nowhere just a few hours later.
This happened to me recently after a flight, leading me down a rabbit hole of information I never knew I wanted to explore…
It all began when I arrived at my brother’s house after the plane ride, and he casually asked me where I had sat on the plane. A pretty typical question, I’m sure you’ll agree, but it set off a fact-finding mission that took nearly an hour.
To cut a long story short, after I mentioned that my seat was located near the wings, he pointed out that I must have been sitting under a black or red triangle sticker above my window.
I insisted that I hadn’t seen any such sticker. There was no way I would have missed it, especially since I’ve never encountered a sticker like that before—and I travel frequently.
I was convinced he was joking, but after doing some research online, I discovered he was actually telling the truth. There are indeed black and red triangular stickers on the interior of airplanes—four in total. Since I took the time to learn what they signify, I thought it might be useful to share this newfound knowledge.
While they may seem trivial to passengers (if you even notice them), the triangles serve as valuable tools for flight attendants and pilots. These markers align with the wings of the airplane; one indicates the front, while the other shows the back of the wing.
According to Travel + Leisure, when it’s time to inspect the wings, pilots and flight attendants use these triangles as guides to find the exact location. This is particularly useful for examining the wing’s moving parts, such as flaps and slats, to identify issues like ice accumulation.
It’s also good to know that the stickers can benefit passengers, especially those prone to motion sickness. Since the wings represent the plane’s center of gravity, sitting near them positions you at the midpoint of the aircraft, meaning you’ll feel less movement.
In short, choosing a seat close to one of the stickers can lead to a smoother and less turbulent flight
