Cats and dogs are often seen as natural adversaries, as reflected in the saying “fighting like cats and dogs.” However, many pet owners would argue that these animals can not only coexist but also form strong bonds of friendship.
This was evident recently when one brave cat defended her canine sister from a pair of coyotes. Lane Dyer, who lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, is the proud owner of two pets: a six-year-old Havanese dog named Oakley and a black cat named Binx, who came into her life as a stray at just two months old, as reported by KFOR.
Dyer shared with the outlet that, despite being “polar opposites,” the two animals shared a familial bond, which was put to the test during a life-threatening encounter.
On November 30, while Oakley was outside for a bathroom break, a coyote suddenly appeared and launched an attack on the small dog. Overpowered by the wild animal, Oakley seemed to be in serious trouble, especially when a second coyote joined in.
However, an unexpected hero emerged: Binx sprang into action, charging toward the coyotes and successfully frightening them off, forcing them to retreat.

After the incident, Oakley was left in critical condition, reportedly “gushing blood” from her chest and side. The Dyers quickly rushed her to a nearby veterinary hospital. Initially, the vets feared that they might need to amputate her leg, but fortunately, they were able to save it.
As Oakley began her recovery, the owners reviewed the security footage and witnessed their cat’s remarkable act of bravery. Lane Dyer described the rescue as “the craziest thing ever” and expressed immense pride in Binx for saving her doggy sibling.
“I was kind of inspired by it, quite frankly,” he shared with KFOR.“It was inspiring to see just our little outdoor cat just jump at two coyotes that were attacking this little dog who she loves and run them off.”
