It was pure luck that these kayakers were paddling through a quiet stretch of the Blackstone River in Massachusetts when they noticed a potato sack floating by. At first, they didn’t think much of it—until they heard faint noises coming from inside.
What they found next stunned the nation and sparked a police investigation. The sack began to move, and when they pulled it out of the water, they uncovered six newborn puppies tied up inside.
Thankfully, all the puppies were alive, and the kayakers swiftly rescued them, contacting the proper authorities, CBS reported.

“I believe as a police chief they had guardian angels looking over them, these kayakers,” Uxbridge Police Chief Jeffrey Lourie commented.
“It was only a matter of time before they were all submerged and perished.”
The puppies are estimated to be just a week old.
Authorities are now searching for the person responsible, whom the department referred to as a “low life” in a Facebook post.

“Obviously this is a heinous act, unconscionable,” Lourie stated. “We definitely want to be able to charge [the suspect] with six counts of cruelty to animals.”
The puppies are now being cared for by Uxbridge Animal Control, he added.
