We all age and eventually pass away.
I’m not particularly afraid of dying; I see it as a beautiful and natural part of life. However, the thought of growing old and losing the ability to care for myself terrifies me.
The idea of being completely dependent on others, unable to use the bathroom by myself or remember my children’s names, is a life I wouldn’t want to live.
Maria was spending her final days in a care facility, fully aware that her time was limited. Fortunately, one of her former students worked at the care home in Austinburg, Ohio.
Joshua Woodard had been taught by her since he was just 9 years old, so they had a close bond. Maria’s deepest wish was to hear the song “How Great Thou Art” before she passed away.
Naturally, Joshua was eager to grant Maria’s final wish.
With the lyrics pulled up on his phone, he delivered a heartfelt rendition of her favorite song.
Even more touching, Joshua had known Maria since he was just 9 years old.
“Hospice workers are angels, but this hospice aide is something special,” remarked Marti Adkins Redmond.
“Maria taught voice and piano during her career, and this aide, Joshua Woodard, was one of her students as a child. Hospice workers truly are special people!”
