Tommy was Molly’s main concern, and her life had been challenging. He was becoming tired of always changing towns and schools. He began acting out, starting arguments, and bothering other kids. Molly never would have thought that a phone call from the school principal would bring back a part of her history that she thought was vanished.
At home, she and her husband Nigel’s tensions increased. Tommy was constantly referred to as “your son,” never given credit for being Nigel’s child. He became irate one evening and said, “Why can’t you get your son to behave?” Even though Nigel had rejected Tommy after years of dating, Molly was still quite hurt.
The next day, Molly went to a meeting at the school to talk about Tommy’s disruptive behavior. She was taken aback to see Christian, her former boyfriend, standing next to the principal. Christian, who had broken up with Tommy a long time ago, looked at him and said, “I see myself in him.” My intention is to make amends for my error.
Molly knew things had to change even though she wasn’t sure how to respond to his unexpected homecoming. That night, Molly returned home following another altercation with Nigel to find him unconscious and clutching an alcohol bottle.
