During the Showcase Showdown, host Drew Carey was astonished when a contestant’s bid came so close to the actual value of the prize that Carey described it as the “best Showcase bid in the history of the show.”
Patrice Masse from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, participated in the game and reached the Showcase Showdown. He placed a bid of $39,500 on a prize package that included a trip to Miami and a new car.
When it was time to reveal the actual value of the prize package, Carey was left utterly speechless.
“So, let me tell you…” he started, as both the crowd and Masse waited in eager anticipation.
“Thirty-nine thousand, five-oh-one.”
Masse’s bid was just $1 off, which meant he won both prize packages.
Under the current rules, any contestant whose bid is within $250 of the actual value without going over wins both showcases. Masse’s remarkable guess earned him the distinction of being one of the show’s rare Double Showcase Winners.
Congratulations, Patric
