Single mom moves into tiny house village with her daughter to live simply

You might be shocked to hear that most tiny house owners are female, in contrast to #vanlife! Why do women gravitate for small homes?Though this is just my opinion, I think the attraction of tiny houses comes from their extreme cuteness and adaptability, two features that women find quite appealing, when compared to other affordable housing options. Cheap housing is also crucial for a single mother who is sustaining herself and her kids.

A SINGLE MOM GOES INTO A TINY HOUSE WITH HER YOUNG DAUGHTER.TAKE A TOUR:

The single mother Erin was tired of paying outrageous rent for a large apartment in San Diego. She wanted to go to the country with her 10-year-old daughter Paulina and live a simpler, more frugal life. One day, she came across an advertisement for a brand-new Tiny House hamlet that was being built not far from the city, up in the mountains. She took advantage of the opportunity and leased a Tiny House for an extended period of time in the hamlet.

Erin moved out of their large apartment and into a tiny house, forgoing many creature comforts. She downsized and gave Paulina the master loft in their modest house, giving her plenty of room for her stuffed animals and the vivarium for her pet snake.

The lower loft, which can only be accessed by ladder, is Erin’s sleeping area. She keeps a few personal items next to her bed and sleeps on a plush chair that unfolds into a cushion the size of a bed. Erin’s favorite area of the house, the balcony, is also crawlable from this single mom’s loft.

Erin also found this practical and affordable dining table and chair set on Amazon. She and Paulina now have a place to sit and eat meals together as a family because it is easy to pack up and has wheels. This multifunctional table arrangement serves them well beyond a workstation; on movie nights, they placed their laptop on top and watch Netflix.

Since she doesn’t have a TV, dishwasher, or oven, Erin has had to modify her daily schedule. The ladies have become accustomed to sharing a small closet, and she usually uses an air fryer to cook all of their meals and make coffee.

The mother-daughter pair now travels 45 minutes to go to Paulina’s school and Erin’s employment, but they believe that living in an area rich in nature and community makes all of these sacrifices worthwhile. Erin compared it to gifting a Disney princess castle to any other young girl.

Paulina reports that her school pals are quite envious and that they will be paying her a visit shortly. Since leaving the city, she has started trekking, snowshoeing, and birdwatching. The well-known Pacific Crest Trail is nearby, and she adores the outdoors. Paulina now thinks that when she grows older, she’ll want to live simply in the woods!

Erin reports that four additional families presently reside in “Tiny House Block,” the first Tiny House Village in Southern California. While small House Block offers both full-time and short-term small house rentals, Erin and Paulina are full-time tiny house renters. To promote comradery among the residents, they arrange potluck meals, neighborhood bonfires, and more activities in the future.
