When Dani and Nathan first met in high school, they both believed they were meant to be together. After a few years, they were married and looked forward to a wonderful life together. However, Nathan changed after just two years of marriage.
Dani wasn’t sure if that change was related to the two welcoming a baby girl into their lives. In the end, Nathan was a great father, therefore it was probably not the reason he was so critical of Dani.
She should take better care of her attractiveness, he told her, as he started to feel self-conscious about her appearance. He said, “Dani, you’ve just let yourself go.” “Always wearing such dowdy clothes. Do you think you’ll keep the spark going that way?
And even though she was working from home and was spending a lot of time with little Ellie, he called her a horrible mother.
The computer screen is what you’re constantly behind. Still, do you think you’re giving Ellie enough attention? That doesn’t seem to be. She’s alone every night when I get home from work.Dani did everything in her could to get Nathan’s approval, but she eventually gave up because he was never satisfied with her work.
Seeing that her marriage was falling apart, Dani decided to end it since she didn’t have the strength to fight against something that was only in her husband’s head.
Nathan told Dani one day that they would have to move since he had a work opportunity. Since Ellie worked from home and was in the first grade, Dani was fine with the idea to move to a new city. In her heart, she hoped that their marriage would benefit from the adjustment.
Dani saw that her daughter was starting to act out when she arrived home after Ellie changed schools. One day, she even found herself crying in her room.
“Honey, what happened?” Dani asked, a little worried.
“Miss Allen is not my ideal mother! I should make you my mother. Ellie burst into tears.
Dani experienced a blast of cold. Miss Allen was Ellie’s teacher.
“Why would she become your mother?” she said.
Tears filled Ellie’s eyes as she started telling her mother all that she had discovered in the last few days. She experienced a gradual relief from the weight pressing down on her shoulders.
Yesterday, Miss Allen requested me to wait outside the door while she spoke with Dad when Dad picked me up from school. Even though I wasn’t privy to everything, I did hear her vow to treat me like a better mother. Dad laughed at what she said.
Nathan was seeing someone romantically.
Dani checked to make sure Ellie was asleep before giving Nathan a drink that evening.
“All right,” she said. “Miss Allen seems to be really good with Ellie.”
His eyes gleamed as he asked. “Really?” “I knew Ellie liked her.”
“Enough for Miss Allen to be her new mother?” Dani asked. “Explain what’s happening, and don’t lie to me.”
Nathan turned to face the ground, too embarrassed to look up. He did admit, though, that he had visited his daughter’s teacher. Their affair started soon after they first met. But that wasn’t all. Back where they used to live, he had an affair with a different woman, and she started to expect more from him than just to be his mistress. He made the decision to relocate and change careers as a result.
That’s when Dani understood her marriage was ended.
She moved Ellie to a different school in the days that followed because she needed to be loved and safeguarded and not get entangled in her father’s adulterous activities.
Dani went to a new home and filed for divorce. Nathan is allowed to see his daughter anytime he wants.
