While having dinner at an Iowan pizzeria with her family, Jackie Johnson-Smith received an unexpected act of generosity.
“I have breastfed three children,” she wrote beside a photo of the restaurant bill that she posted on Facebook. I have taken care of them in both public and private settings at both joyful and sad occasions. I’ve had a lot of looks and stares, but tonight makes it all go away. Tonight was my first time dining at Fongs. I nursed my irritable baby in the seat for a while before getting up early so as not to bother the other diners.
“My husband received this receipt from the waitress. I was so angry that I was unable to speak. It felt great, even though I don’t deserve a pat on the back for feeding my child. “It’s amazing how women can empower and feel for one another,” was the letter’s last line.
Bodi Kinney, a waitress in Des Moines, told KCCI 8 News that “we need to come together and support each other when it comes to nursing our children.” Kinney wrote the statement.
