89-Year-Old Woman Knitted 450 Blankets And Coats For Shelter Dogs

Numerous opportunities exist at local rescue organizations to assist with animals in need.

If you’re looking for opportunities to work with animals at shelters, there are plenty of options and approaches available. Supporting local rescues can be done in a number of ways; most of them appreciate any help, whether it be by walking dogs, fostering, cleaning kennels, or helping with adoption events.

But a British woman has come up with a rather creative way to support animals in need: she makes them sweaters and blankets!

Using her knitting skills, Maisie Green has created hundreds of dog blankets and sweaters throughout the years. She has given all of them to the rescue dogs at the UK’s Dogs Trust Basildon shelter.

89-year-old Maisie is seen standing tall and proudly in front of her knitted creations for the animals in need in the following Dogs Trust Instagram picture:

She stated, “I love knitting and dogs, so this combines both wonderfully,” in front of the Basildon Dogs Trust. I can knit a dog coat in one day, yet it takes me three days to make a blanket.

With all that knitting, she must enjoy helping the puppies in need while they look for their forever homes. Maisie is an avid knitter, and her family helps her carry out her yearly trip to the shelter to deliver her knitted donations.

She continued by saying that since she started working on knitting projects, she felt more meaningful.

I find that knitting keeps me busy, and I often like it while watching TV. “I’m delighted to offer any support I can to the center’s four-legged residents,” she said.

Dogs Trust Basildon reports that by December 2018, Maisie had knitted 450 blankets to keep the animals in the shelter warm.

The dogs at the shelter seem to love getting knitted items, whether they come from Maisie or somewhere else. When they use them, they also have a cute appearance.

And this second dog appears so content as it curls up beneath a brightly colored blanket:

Dogs Trust, one of the largest dog rescue organizations in the UK, takes care of over 16,000 stray and abandoned dogs every year. Volunteers are given multiple opportunities to contribute by the group.
