The grown daughter of President Barack and Michelle Obama, as well as the former First Lady, Malia Obama, has changed her name and is covertly following a different career path.
The 25-year-old just made his directorial debut at the Sundance Film Festival with The Heart.
The surname of her family was surprisingly omitted from the film’s credits.
Malia Ann Obama, born July 4, 1998, adopted her middle name in honor of her paternal grandmother, who died of ovarian cancer in 1995 at the age of 52. Following her Harvard graduation and a public upbringing as the President’s daughter, Malia decided to pursue a career in screenwriting.
Malia took on the moniker Malia Ann for her most recent film, The Heart, for which she wrote the screenplay and directed. Malia looked amazing on the red carpet at the festival earlier this year, and she loved the premiere of her film.
Though this is Malia’s first filming experience, she has tried her hand at filming before. She contributed to the writing team of the television show Swarm in 2021, which went on to premiere on Amazon Prime. Her career began brightly with Swarm, which starred well-known performers including Billie Eilish and Rory Culkin.
“She made some ridiculous pitches, but they weren’t any less amazing or captivating.” Janine Nabers, co-creator of Swarm, told E! Online that Malia is a gifted writer. She made significant contributions. She sincerely loves what she does.
Despite her well-known heritage, Swarm executive producer Stephen Glover was eager to point out that Malia was treated equally to the other members of the creative team.
“We can’t be easy on her just because she’s the [former] President’s daughter,” he stated to Vanity Fair. No, she is really grounded and cool. So, it’s not at all troublesome.
Apart from wishing their daughter Malia a joyous 25th birthday, Barack and Michelle Obama expressed their delight in her candidly.
“Happy birthday to this talented, hilarious, and beautiful young woman,” Barack wrote on Instagram. “Maalia, I hope 25 brings you everything you desire and more.”
Michelle echoed her husband’s words and wrote, “Happy birthday, Malia!” I feel very fortunate to be your mother and to have seen you develop into the amazing young woman you are. 💕 I really truly love you!
It’s obvious that Malia Obama and Malia Ann, the president’s daughter and aspiring Hollywood filmmaker and screenwriter, have fantastic careers ahead of them!
