Although owning a dog is a lifetime commitment, sadly, many individuals surrender their pets for no apparent reason or with no thought to what will happen to them. This horrific story is just one example of such heartless desertion.
A 7-year-old male dog was just handed in to the Animal Control Shelter in Greenville, Texas. The reason? His owner believed they wouldn’t have enough time for the dog because they were expecting a child.
Imagine the confusion and sorrow this poor dog must have had after being snatched from the only house he has ever known. He faced the risk of being executed at the overcrowded shelter on top of the uncertainty of not being able to find a new home.
Thankfully, the Lone Star Dog Ranch & Dog Ranch Rescue stepped in and paid the $17 adoption fee to keep this cute dog from being euthanized. Unable to contain their dissatisfaction, they wrote on Facebook to express their shock and rage at the owner’s decision.
The rescue questioned the owner’s behavior in a heartfelt article and begged them to consider the emotional damage it caused the dog. Was it really so easy for them to part with a seven-year friend? While they waited in line at the shelter, did they feel any regret? These questions were a sobering reminder of the toll that this kind of disregard takes on helpless animals.
The dog, who is now called Rooney, was in significant physical suffering from the chaos, but he was resilient and kind-hearted. He remained alone and struggled to accept being rejected as he gradually started to adjust to his new environment.
Lone Star Dog Ranch & Dog Ranch Rescue is dedicated to helping Rooney find the kind of loving, long-term home where he will be cherished for the rest of his life. Because they understand what it means to be genuinely devoted, they want to place him with a family who will never leave him.
Though it pains us to think that Rooney had to endure such a horrific event, we find comfort in the knowledge that he is safe and in the capable hands of the rescue group. Let’s help Rooney find a new home where he will be accepted and loved for who he is by spreading the word about him.
