On “The Voice Senior,” a contestant who is 63 years old closes her eyes and belts out an Etta James song from 1959.

“Something’s Got a Hold on Me” by Mechelina Delivers is played in an energetic performance.

Age has little bearing on talent, particularly artistic ability. Contestants over sixty can face out against younger competitors on The Voice Senior. This is finally bringing to light their amazing sounds.

On Singing Seniors, contestants not only get the chance to perform in front of a huge audience, but they also get one-on-one voice coaching from renowned judges as they advance through the competition and compete to win.

On “The Voice Senior,” we’ve seen some real contenders who put many pros to shame. In contrast to many younger singers, these senior vocalists don’t employ “auto-tune” to “fix” their voices when they’re not good. The vocal talent you hear on “The Voice Senior” is all genuine.

Mechelina, 63, is just like the rest of them. When Mechelina stepped on the “The Voice” stage, most younger people would have concluded she was just a “ordinary” grandmother or great-grandmother. Despite being a grandmother and great-grandmother, she has a superpower shared by grandmothers: a powerful voice.

Mechelina enters the stage before the music starts playing in the video down below. If she was, who wouldn’t be a little worried? She takes a deep breath, shuts her eyes, and starts singing a well-known Etta James song that captivates the judges and the audience.

A lot of modern performers have sampled and recorded “Something’s Got a Hold on Me,” but never in this fashion. As she caresses the words, Mechelina’s rich, sparkling voice envelops the audience in a classic 1960s sound and takes them on an emotional journey.

“Let me say right now that I’ve never felt this way before. I feel like something is holding my throat hostage. The lyrics to “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” were created in collaboration by Etta James, Leroy Kirkland, and Pearl Woods. Blues, soul, and gospel are all represented. James once said, “That song was written by us and was based on a church song.” The spiritual song’s lyrics began, “Something’s Got a Hold on Me, It Must Be the Lord.” The song gained popularity right away and peaked at number four on the Hot R&B Sides chart. The song also made it to position 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Mechelina had a lot to live up to when she took the stage of “The Voice” Senior, especially considering the song she selected and the popularity of Etta Jame’s gospel/blues voice, which made it easy for others to make comparisons. Even if the judges don’t agree, we think Mechelina did a terrific job, and we hope she’ll come back soon to try out again. We would like to hear more of her wonderful voice.
